This tattoo design I've been working on for a few years.
It started when I lost a classmate to a fatal accident (dead flowers).
Then my sister lost her grandfather (we have different fathers). I wanted to honour a fulfilling life verses one cut short (the rose).
I picked this up again recently with the lose of the friend due to suicide (the gems).
And I added others I have lost in life.
When I was in elementary school, I lost a childhood friend to a car accident (the icicles).
I lost a classmate, which I was friends with briefly, in middle school due to leukemia ("don't give up").
And I lost family friends, which had only each other and God in life, due to a car accident (the beaded cross).
I choose the dead flowers, because they were the flowers I got at his funeral.
I choose the rose because it contrasted the dead ones, and I got those at his funeral.
I choose the gems because they're on a bracelet she once accidentally left at my house, and I think of the blue gems as sadness (there's long reason with this).
I choose the icicles because her favorite song was Landslide.
I choose the cross because the woman in the couple made these and gave them to people she knew.
Sorry for the extended description. But tattoos tell a story, and this one about life, death, and appreciation.
